An Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) system is a computerised system used in shops, restaurants and numerous others retail establishments so that customers can pay for items or services they have purchased.

EPOS systems have a number of different uses including helping to improve the way a business performs because they allow information about stock to be stored securely and for it to be available immediately when needed.

They also allow a business to see what products are most in demand and to manipulate its stock accordingly. With the correct software, the system can also print out receipts and vouchers for the customer and provide details of the transaction to the suppliers if needed.

Although an EPOS system is normally placed at the payment site within a business, it is also possible to link it to a website or any other terminal within the business. The predominant users of EPOS systems are the retail and hospitality industries, including, but not limited to, shops, bars, restaurants and clubs.
